Surrounded by beautiful mountains we made our way up to Loboche where we spent our last night before hiking to base camp.

After another breakfast of cornflakes and hot milk we left for Loboche at 8. When we started out it was very hot but we were soon in a valley and it was very windy. I was bundled up with long underwear, hiking pants, a quarter zip, down jacket, and wind proof jacket. I also put on my hat and buff over my mouth and gloves.

The walk before lunch was mostly flat which was nice. For lunch I had fried rice which was surprisingly good. We set back out to go up a few hundred meters. After a short hike up we came across a memorial. There was lots of these stone structures with prayer flags to honor the lives lost while trying to summit Everest. I saw the memorials for both Rob Hall and Scott Fischer who are trekkers that passed away hiking Everest in the book I am reading.

The memorials are here because since the bodies are too high up it is too dangerous to bring them back down. We walked around and saw all the memorials and then headed to Loboche. Once we arrived at the teahouse we were at 5000 m. Our rooms were the biggest so far which seemed strange because I thought they would get worse the higher we went up.

My stomach was still bothering me so I passed up an optional walk to see a glacier. Once I awoke from my nap it was dinner time. I observed card games while awaiting my tomato soup. It was a lot better than last nights, which tasted like garlic. My stomach still wasn't feeling good and I didn't have much of an appetite because of the altitude, so I didn't eat a lot.

After dinner I headed back for an early night because tomorrow is our hike to base camp!
