After waking up at 4am and sitting in a stuffy airport for 7 hours our flight was cancelled due to bad weather.

I awoke bright an early and headed out the door to the airport with an empty stomach at 4:30am. Waving goodbye to our friends from the hotel, we hopped into a van and drove a short way to the airport. We checked in for out flight, had our carry-ons weighed, and then went through security.

We sat down and waited for our flight to be called. Not long after, the flight was delayed an hour and I fell back asleep. Lukla is the most dangerous airport in the world, so the weather has to be good in order to fly. We needed at least 5km of visibility at Lukla for them to allow our plane to take off.

After sleeping for an hour or two, I felt mostly awake and played some cards with friends as the flight continued to be delayed. The hours slowly passed and I decided to buy some food as my stomach was grumbling. I ate chow-mein as I played the never ending card games.

We played lots and lots of games. Eventually, after 6 or 7 hours, our flight was officially cancelled.

We headed back to the hotel feeling defeated by the fog. After our bags were dropped we went straight over to the Momo Hut for a late lunch. I am pretty sure our hotel has a deal with them because they are the ones in charge of providing us food, and we eat there almost every day. After another plate of chow-mein I went out with a few who decided we were still hungry.

I ordered chicken momos and a vegetable quesadilla. They were both delicious and I gobbled them down. We then sat around the restaurant for a few hours and played some more card games and talked. Around 6 we went back to our rooms and organized our stuff before dinner at 7.

Back at the momo hut we had veggie curry with rice. It was a nice change to have curry and I stuffed my face with the hopeful last dinner before the trek. Our plan was to leave a little later at 7 the next day to try to fly again. I was still packed from the day before and decided to read.

Only a few minutes later I was passed out. It was a disappointing day, but hopefully tomorrow we will be successful.
